[Summary]
This service helps a user to search for products archived in the ASTER GDS. It also allows users to find product availability before ordering them and to confirm product contents by checking the Browse data and the Coverage data. Non-registered users are also allowed to utilize this service.

Types of Search

  • Inventory search
    "Inventory Search" enables you to search products on under your arbitrary search conditions on a granule basis. A list of granules that satisfy your search conditions will be provided as the search result. Detailed information of all data sets, geographic locations on the map, and browse data are provided for your checking.
[Procedure]
1. Online Procedure
(1) Click here to show ASTER GDS-IMS Homepage in another window. Detailed instruction on how to utilize IMS will be given by clicking the "HELP" button.
(2) Select "DPR" from the Main Menu on the "ASTER GDS-IMS Homepage" to display the "DPR Menu".
(3) Select "DPR Search" from the "DPR Menu".
(4) "DPR Search" page will show up for you to specify your search conditions.
  • "Select Range": Select "ASTER GDS".
  • "Search Type": Choose "Inventory Search".

*If you wish to order the retrieved products at the end of a product search, please select "Inventory Search" for "Search Type". Remember that you must be an ASTER GDS registered User and have performed User Certification before ordering products. As for User Certification, please select "User Certification" from the Main Menu on the ASTER GDS-IMS Homepage. Enter your Login Name and Password. (As for User Registration, which is required for utilizing the User Certification and Product Processing and Distribution services, please refer to the "User Registration" page for the details.

  • Depending on which search type you have selected, please specify your search conditions in accordance with the table below. The mandatory items indicated with or are shown in bold on the "DPR Search" screen.

  • Please refer to the "Valid Entries for Search Conditions" below for the details. The table describes the appropriate values for input of search conditions on the "DPR Search" page.
(5) On completion of specifying your search conditions, please click "Search Exec". to start your retrieval on the "Product Search" page.
(6) The progress of the search will be indicated on the "Inventory Search Status" page for an inventory search. (Even during the retrieval, you can reset the search and start a new search by clicking "New Search" button or you can just abort the search by clicking "Abort Search" button.)
(7) The search result will be provided on the "DPR Inventory Search Result" page for a inventory search. The contents of the search results for each search type are as follows;
  • Inventory Search Result
    The search result consist of the search conditions at the top of the screen and a list of granule IDs satisfying the search conditions at the bottom. By clicking "Next Data Set" or "Previous Data Set", granules in adjacent data sets can be displayed.
    Select one granule from the list and click any tag you desire to refer to, Inventory Information, Coverage Map, Browse Data, Core Metadata, or Specific Metadata.

    • "Inventory Detailed Information"
      Data Center name, Data Set ID, Granule ID, (Satellite Name,) Sensor mode, Instrument Mode, Scene Coverage, Processing Level, Cloud Cover Rate and etc. can be confirmed for any granule selected from the list of the retrieved granules on the "DPR Inventory Search Result" page.

    • "Coverage Map"
      The location of the area of the granule selected from the list of the search results on the "DPR Inventory Search Result" is given on the map for your viewing. The area framed in red is the location of the selected granule.

    • "Browse Data"
      A compressed image is displayed for the granule selected from the search result list on the "DPR Inventory Search Result" page. Clicking on the browse image data framed in blue will enlarge the view in another window.

    • "Core Metadata"
      The Core Metadata for the granule selected from the search result list on the "DPR Inventory Search Result" page is given in the text format.

    • "Specific Metadata"
      The Specific Metadata for the granule selected from the search result list on the "DPR Inventory Search Result" page is given in the text format.

leaving the longitudes of Northern Tip and Southern Tip blank, and leaving the latitudes of Eastern Tip and Western Tip blank.
You can also specify the area by pointing and dragging with the mouse on the map.
2. Offline Procedure
(1) Please print out the "Application Form for ASTER GDS Products Search" available from the link below and fill out the form as instructed in the "Instruction to fill in the Application Form for ASTER GDS Products Search" also available from the link below. Please also refer to the example provided below which shows you how to complete the form.

(2) Complete the "Application Form for ASTER GDS Products Search" and send it to ASTER GDS User Service via fax (03-3533-9390).
(3) ASTER GDS will make the search for you and will inform you of the search results via fax.
(4) As for the search result, when no products that satisfy the user's search conditions are found, ASTER GDS will notify the user that there is no appropriate product.
(5) When there are products that satisfy the user's search conditions, ASTER GDS will send a list of granule IDs, as shown in the figure below, to inform the user of the products satisfying the user's search conditions. A granule ID is the minimal unit of ASTER data products and corresponds to one scene (approximately 60km x 60km) which is the unit for ASTER observation unit. Therefore, users are asked to be aware that the area you request may be divided into two or more scenes as the search result.
